Retirements at MTR 2024
This past year was filled with prosperity and transition for MTR. While our company has headed toward one of its best years in MTR history, we simultaneously prepared for the transition to a new management team.
Tom Plucknette Jr. and his partners founded MTR in 1982 on the fall of the Farrel company. MTR started as a company to support those customers who currently had Farrel, Betts and Sellers machine tools in operation. Tom and his partners saw this as a great opportunity to keep the industries supported after the Farrel company shut its doors. Over the years Tom became the sole owner of the company and in 2018 he sold the company to the employees of MTR in the form of an ESOP. From 2018 until the end of 2023, Tom worked for MTR as the president and eventually the CEO of MTR.
For decades, Tom led the company with a strong work ethic and one eye on the bottom line. He left behind a legacy of machine tool knowledge and helped build MTR’s strong reputation as a preeminent large machine tool builder.
Tom retired December 31, 2023 and left the company in the hands of the new management team and a group of dedicated employee owners that would like to wish Tom a fulfilling retirement.
In addition to Tom’s retirement, MTR would like to wish Bob Smith a happy retirement. Bob had 35 years of service within the sales department. His many years of sales work gave him a wealth of knowledge that will be missed.
As MTR transitions into the new year, we will surely miss those that are leaving, but we are excited to use the knowledge and work ethic instilled in us to propel MTR into the future!
